Mittens is a black lab mix who I met a few weeks ago at the Good Dog! Rescue adoption event. She is so sweet and really shy. She was placed in a foster home, but
unfortunately got out and made her way from Falls Church to my neighborhood,
Fairlington. We searched everywhere for her and on Friday I saw her hiding in some brush off Rt. 7.
Because I was on the wrong side of the fence, we were unable to get her and she got away. What we did learn that day was that she had gotten hit by a car and her back left leg was badly injured. We searched all weekend and then on Tuesday a nice woman called Theresa and said that she had seen our signs and also a sign in the neighborhood across the street that someone had found a black dog with a red collar. Sure enough it was Mittens and Theresa picked her up and took her immediately to the vet where she had surgery to fix her hip. I picked her up yesterday and brought her home to my house where she has settles in and is resting. Tucker wasn't thrilled to have to be separated from another dog in his house, but he's calmed down and realized that he can't play with her.
